now, back to reality.  I think an interesting way to look at this would be indirectly.  I'm sure there are a few politicians that might benefit from lobbyists who are tied to oil companies that want higher prices.  But if there are, I'm sure it's not many.  I would imagine that most politicians suffer when gas prices go higher.  Although they may not pay for gas directly out of their pockets, they are elected by people who do.  When gas prices get out of control, everybody gets upset and ends up blaming the government. (I'm not saying that this is right or wrong, it's just usually how it is.) So what I'm getting at is that when gas goes up, it makes the politicians look bad.  It also usually has a negative effect on the economy (as a whole) which people can end up blaming on the government.  So in this way, politicians may suffer (indirectly) from high gas prices.  

The government doesn't control the price of gas Joe, so saying "lowering prices by a dollar for a couple of years" is just silly.</description>
