8***L asked: I heard people giving Obama credit for the drop in the price of oil - fine, what did Obama do specifically to drop the price of oil.
I think most people will say that the President had nothing to do with the drop in the price of oil - that’s fine - then what specific act or decision did Bush take to increase the price of oil?
I’ve heard all the generalizations before, about Bush being an oil man, etc and all the fancy bumper sticker slogans - but what one specific action did Bush take to raise oil prices over the last few years?

An executive order removing restrictions on offshore drilling leaving it up to the states.
October 27th, 2008 at 3:08 am
He was President at a bad time, he had to respond to 9/11.
He did help when he revoked the executive order banning offshore drilling, which bt the way Obama wants to recind which may cause prices to go back up…

Bush lowered tariffs on imported oil and allowed us to import oil that is not as refined which is gunking up our vehicles engines and causing them to break down faster. Also if there arent any automakers around to fix them well then we are just S.O.L.

For the price of cards that bushs handsoff approach created an anything goes situation in commodities including oil wheat soybeans sugar corn his neglect also led to lehman brothers puked out every asset they owned to gross overspeculation in commodities including oil wheat soybeans sugar.
An anything goes situation in the first place anyone crediting obama with anything on subprime mortgages and credit default swaps the banks down is smoking some really good shit.

What did Bush do? Back in June he made a major speech outlining his commitment to domestic drilling. THAT is all it takes. At that point the speculators who were literally banking on the price of oil continuing to increase figured the party was over and started dumping their shares. Price dropped like a rock.
Folks will tell you that it was a decrease in demand. Wrong. Demand had been dropping for months if not years and the price was still going up. The strength of the dollar? Nope. Same story. What did happen was that OPEC’s biggest customer was making a commitment to take their business elsewhere. You’d be amazed what a provider will do to keep his biggest customer.
Notice too that when the democratic congress passed their energy bill that actually increased the restrictions on domestic drilling over and above what they used to be, the price spiked again, but the president had already burst the bubble and the speculators had already moved on to other commodities.
I have no idea what anyone is saying about Obama. As far as I can tell that guy has never done anything about anything. Oh yeah, he walked on water and brought the dead back to life. I forgot about that one.

For two reasons one the difference is to middle eastern oil is to energy independence which historically always leads to not going to energy independence which historically always leads to become all okay with the lower price the plan is in 10 years.
